For families in The Springs, The Meadows and The Lakes, the most reliable way to stay fit is to train at home: a living room, garage or shaded garden turns into a training space in minutes, and sessions happen early before the school run or once the children are in bed. The lakeside paths add easy walks and intervals from November to March, and community gyms are there when you want more equipment.
I’m Gawhar Ahmad, licensed pharmacist and head coach at Being Fit. We offer personal training across Emirates Living, from the numbered Springs clusters to the larger Meadows villas and the quieter Lakes. Here’s what works for busy households.
Key takeaways
- Home training removes the drive to a gym, the biggest barrier for busy parents.
- A garage or spare room with a few dumbbells and a mat is enough for real progress.
- Lakeside paths are ideal for walks and intervals in the cooler months.
- Partners and teenagers can join: discounted couples and family packages are available.
- Female coaches are available for women-only sessions at home.
Where can you train in Emirates Living?
- Your villa, garage or garden. Strength, conditioning and mobility without leaving home.
- Community gyms and pools. The Springs, Meadows and Lakes have community facilities; we help where approval is needed.
- Lakeside paths and parks. Walks, intervals and mobility in the cooler months.
- Online. Live video sessions on travel weeks and during school holidays.
How do I set up a home training space in a villa?
Start small. A clear floor area, a mat, a pair of adjustable dumbbells, two resistance bands and a sturdy step or bench cover almost everything. Garages work well if they’re ventilated and cool enough; in summer, a spare room with air conditioning is better. Add a bench or heavier weights once you know you’ll use them. Our home gym setup guide covers equipment in more detail, and our guide to personal training at home explains how sessions work.
How can busy parents fit training in?
- Book fixed sessions before the household wakes or after bedtime, and treat them like appointments.
- Keep sessions to 45 to 60 minutes, with a 20-minute backup routine for chaotic days.
- Walk the lakes with the family at the weekend in the cooler months.
- Plan meals for the week. Every package includes a customised nutrition plan that works with family meals.
- Train together. Many families start with one adult and add a partner or teenager after a few weeks.
Can teenagers and children train too?
Yes. Our family fitness guide for villa communities has ideas for the whole household, and we coach kids and teens boxing and kickboxing, which builds fitness, coordination and confidence. Couples, friends and family packages come at discounted prices; ask us on WhatsApp.
What about mums before and after birth, or women in midlife?
We offer prenatal and postpartum training with a qualified coach, and menopause coaching. Our pregnancy and postnatal exercise guide and menopause strength training guide explain the approach. Female coaches are available; see our female personal trainer page for Emirates Living.
When can I train outdoors?
From November to March, time on the lakeside paths is at its best early in the morning or after sunset. From late spring to early autumn, keep hard sessions indoors. The NHS lists heavy sweating, dizziness, headache, nausea and cramps among the signs of heat exhaustion: stop, move somewhere cool and drink water. Our heat and hydration guide has more, written from a pharmacist’s point of view.
What does a good family week look like?
| Day | Session | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Sunday | Coached strength | Garage or spare room |
| Monday | Lakeside walk, 30–45 minutes | Outdoors (cooler months) |
| Tuesday | Boxing pads (teen can join) | Garden or home |
| Wednesday | Coached strength | Home or community gym |
| Thursday | Yoga or Pilates | Home or online |
| Friday–Saturday | Family activity: walk, swim or cycle | Your choice |
That meets the World Health Organization guidelines: 150 to 300 minutes of moderate activity a week plus muscle strengthening on at least two days.
